Cheryl Johnston

Case Manager & Offical Representative for S.A. Foltra Foundation.  Pro Portfolio - Linden Lifesaving Club  | ASCHP Counsellor

Cheryl indeed Changes Lives, Making a Difference. When Cheryl was nominated she immediately said “Yes, I accept, this is amazing.  I would love to be part of this movement."

The Ambassador, Executive Director for South Africa, Julie B Steynberg says:  “South Africa has the most amazing women who Change Lives Making a Difference,  and Cheryl Johnston fits into the criteria and is one of the amazing women who takes my  breath away. What an amazing country we have, with extraordinary women who serve our people.  Cheryl’s contribution to be a world shaker here in S.A. speaks for itself”.   Cheryl stated:  "I would like to say thank you to Rina van Schalkwyk for my nomination. Rina is an exceptional person who is impacting the lives of many. Thank you to the Executive Director for Difference Makers SA' Julie B Steynberg who is driving this magnificent organisation here in South Africa, giving the people of S.A. the opportunity to become part of the Global Movement: One Billion Dreams.org . I stand in awe of the truly remarkable women who are part of DMI and who are making such incredible differences in the lives of others. Thank you so much. I am humbled and honoured by your achievements and wish DMI-SA great success!”

As part of the Foltra Foundation Cheryl explaned that; “We provide advanced regenerative therapies that regenerate the brain; we treat patients in some cases for free as their situations are dire –one life not lived fully is one life too many. Here in South Africa we have recovered functions of people who have brain injury from rugby, global hypoxia ischemia, cerebral palsy and assisted people who have had nowhere to turn for help and provided them with support and advice”.

At the Linden Lifesaving Club Cheryl holds the PRO portfolio and produced the first Lifesaving Advert on behalf of Linden Lifesaving Club in the history of Lifesaving South Africa with a special focus on Stillwater lifesaving and what a distress signal is if you are in trouble.  Cheryl devised the Drowning Prevention and water safety campaign for Linden Lifesaving Club. Linden Lifesaving Club is heavily invested in preventing drownings, and educating the public on water safety. Cheryl gained sponsorships and produced a comprehensive set of water safety adverts for  National TV and radio broadcast which are aired every year. In addition, “we hold drowning prevention and water safety awareness days at Schools and in public venues, showing others practical skills on how to help someone who is in difficulty in water or first aid in an emergency situation by water, for one life saved it is all worthwhile”

Cheryl holds a counselling registration with the ASCHP as a Holistic Counsellor and assists people with difficulties such as anxiety or depression.  She says: “In my practice my colleague and I assist those who have financial difficulties by providing free counselling – every person is important and deserves to live a happy and fulfilled life”. Cheryl believes that therapy is an interactive journey which enables you to find your way in a warm and safe environment.

Cheryl received her Master of Science, Psyhology Degree summa cum laude in 2012 and has focused on clinical disorders such as treatment resistant depression, particularly in the areas of Neurogenesis. Her interest in this area began in 2011 when she did a thesis on the prevalence of depression in people who had suffered from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disorders and considered the interaction between illness, emotions and cognitive functioning.  Since then Cheryl has focused on providing advanced regenerative therapies, counselling and working on drowning prevention.
