Dr. Habib Noorbhai

CEO / Founder

I am humbled to accept the nomination as a Top 100 Difference Maker, South Africa. Lots of gratitude to the team for this warm gesture and recognition. There an array of platforms globally that one can use to make a difference, including DMI. It is therefore imperative for all difference makers and change makers to always stay true to who they are and stand for what you believe in. Authenticity and credibility is everything. Remember, if you flaunt what you do or always post what you did for the community on social media, it is not charity, you only feeding your ego. I congratulate DMI-SA for their work in honouring those who make a difference in society, as well as for encouraging and inspiring others to do the same. We all want to change the world for the better. But what we must remember is that even if you do one act of kindness, to one person per day, you are changing that person's world.

Giving from the heart is the ultimate key to success.

Giving from the heart was definitely observed and learnt from my family. For me, giving from the heart is the difference between ordinary and extraordinary outcomes. I am just an ordinary guy, but became extraordinary through giving from the heart, doing acts of kindness and undertaking all activities from the heart.

We all say give 110% in all that you do. I say, do everything from the heart. Because when you do, you also become successful. Some give their 110% but still wonder why they haven’t been successful? Perhaps it wasn’t done with sincerity, devotion and passion. Verily, these are some of the main elements that make daily activities ‘heartfelt’. Even if you give 50%, through giving from the heart, you will most likely still come out on top or be very close to achieving your goals.

I am not a fan of diplomacy – it’s close to being pretentious or superficial. It is sometimes not real, nor authentic. Professionalism on the other hand, most of the time, is not about being a diplomat. Don’t smile because you have to, smile because you want to. Don’t do anything because you have to, do it because you want to. Remove yourself from toxic environments and people, as it is not good for the heart. It makes the soul bitter, creating negative thoughts. You can’t fix toxicity.

But…your heart is your cleanser and purifier. When it becomes purified, your mind is clearer, fresher and your intentions promote positive actions. Your heart is the fuel to the mind (the engine); leaded, unleaded or diesel fuel. It alleviates the soul and it burns a flame of giving through igniting kindness, which is why it is such a powerful weapon.

We can never be certain of what the future holds but I am certain that my root and the first two branches of life, has provided me with a solid foundation to do more for society. After being crowned as Mr South Africa 2016/2017, I remain humbled and grounded. I can never forget where I came from, the hard yards walked and where I am now. I look to the future now with a better vision and a mission that I hope will make a difference in the lives of others. If I can contribute towards 5% of difference making in my life, then for me, that would be a significant contribution, and I continue aiming to give from the heart.

Have a heart when living – that’s your foundation. Giving from the heart has been my foundation, and fortunately, the foundation is granite.
No one can damage it or take it away from me. It is so strong, that look forward to building on it. I pray that God gives me a sufficient number of years in order to inspire and change the lives of millions. But if I had to leave now, I know that I have planted a heartfelt seed. Or rather, when my leaf eventually falls, I will leave knowing that my root (foundation) was strong because I gave from the heart. I lived, loved and laughed from the heart. Ultimately, I made a difference, which came from a wonderful place: the heart.

I continue to do so. And I know, you can do it too…

The Humanitarians, an NPO that I founded in 2013, continues to conduct sustainable work in the areas of sport, health, education, innovation and research. Always make a difference through sustainability, and never through toxic charity (eg: giving money or bread to someone for a day). Instead, teach them core skills and develop them to fend for themselves.
