Herman SsebulibaSocial Entrepreneur / Leader / Speaker / Coach / MOOC Facilitator & Trainer Herman Ssebuliba is the founder of Hermie Technology Solutions Pty Ltd. Herman says: “We focus on how to connect African resources and opportunities through digital transformation. We provide important opportunities to South African citizens and Africa by increasing the benefits from open trade and contributing to economic growth, education, unemployment, social innovation and poverty eradication. Our achievements are shaped by the strength of the foundations we set. Thank you Julie Steynberg, the Executive Director of Difference Markers SA, for this incredible nomination which came on my birthday month it’s a special feeling and amazing turning point in my life, you are a leader who shares experience and ensures a bright future that leaves a legacy for generations to come and the future we need. Being part of DMI-SA gives me the opportunity to fulfil my purpose in life of serving with love, awaken, inspire and empower others through who I am, as a Creator's child in making a difference. This nomination will enable me to continue my passion and the dream I have to reach a quarter part of South Africa’s population. My vision is to have more confident, empowered, self-made and self-sustaining youth entrepreneurs who can transform through personal development and utilise their thought processes effectively. This could be achieved through stimulating their creativity and innovativeness. Through MOOCs we’re creating a place where students can share their interests and achievements – both in the classroom and outside of it. Then, we use that information to help them discover their options; (and we’re making it free to make sure every student everywhere gets that opportunity). Under CollegeEase we’re creating a global community from which colleges/universities can seek out and engage with students who may be a good fit for their programs. Imagine what a difference advice and encouragement from a university advisor could make to a child who has never known anyone who has ever gone to University. CollegeEase was created to enlighten, empower, and encourage learners toward higher education. Being a Ugandan born, a country which had civil wars and political instability for decades taught me to appreciate peace and freedom of speech as a strong pillar of human rights. That experience also helped me to widen my perspective and see the world from a different point of view, which influenced my migration to South Africa Cape Town the country I admired and loved since a teenager. Today I am traveller, having visited more than 16 countries. I have attended five exchange programs with partner schools, one in Rwanda, Zambia, Botswana, Tanzania and South Africa. I have also been a volunteer for twenty years in ten countries on different volunteer programs on cultural, spiritual and church, entrepreurship and business, Hiv/Aids, disability, and the most amazing program on Tanzanian expedition in particular was an eye opener, not only because of the local cultural differences and the poverty, but also because of the amount of teamwork and hardships we had to face living in a remote area like the Usambara Mountains. The experience also made me aware of how foreign Relief and NGOs are helping to alleviate the poverty in poor countries. My visit to Rwanda with a lot of unique history of genocide, touring site victims and families telling stories what was happening by the time of genocide and attending ‘Gacaca’ local courts set to try the war crimes against humanity with independent powers without interference from the government taught me a lesson of accountability, integrity and corruption as proof of servant leadership. Herman continues: “Since childhood, I have been fascinated by the constantly changing world that we live in, waiting to understand and explore the causes and effects of current and future human interactions. During my teenage years associating with people of different backgrounds and cultures and reading internationally recognized magazines and journals convinced me that a further education relevant to religion, culture and world affairs, technology would help me gain knowledge that would allow me pursue a wide range of possibilities. I have grown personally and professionally, with development in social entrepreneurship and leadership skills which I use to create positive changes in young people in South African’s communities, countries and the world. |
