MARGARET HIRSCH

CEO OF HIRSCHS

Difference Makers S.A. wants to congratulate Margaret Hirsch as Top100 SA Difference Maker. Meeting this remarkable woman made me want to be Margaret’s best friend; she is such an inspirer for doing good, on this level I can spend days with Margaret seeing how more lives can be changed, saved. In Margaret’s own words she says:  “I believe I am a change maker because my mission is to make ordinary people extra ordinary. I work right through the entire spectrum of humanity. The list goes on and on: from contributing to orphanages, to running schools for two to six years old in South African and in Tanzania, to working in the junior schools and the high schools with the girls; giving them reusable sanitary pads. We’ve looked after the boys to, ensuring that they can be circumcised painlessly.

Margaret & Allan Hirsch started Hirsch’s in 1979 with just R900 that they had saved. They are the archetypal entrepreneurs, and are passionate about this country and its people. Margaret is a renowned champion of Entrepreneurship and Women’s Empowerment and has been one of the most influential women on the South African business scene for several years now. She has received 25 major business awards in recognition of her work ethic and for being an inspiration to women, not only in South Africa, but also on the African Continent and globally. Margaret started the Margaret Hirsch Women in Business Achiever of the Year Award, in order to help promote women in business in the communities in which Hirsch’s operates. Margaret in her own words: “I worked hard for 36 years without recognition. When I was nominated for and won the BWSA Women in Business Entrepreneur of the Year 2012, I was astounded. We have already seen the ripple effect that this competition has had on the business in the communities in which we operate. It is hugely heart-warming for me to know that in some way, I have helped people achieve their dreams”.

HIRSCH’S – Supporting the Girls with Dignity/ SubzPad Project & Safe House for Girls BMG Project.
MARGARET Inspires Young Minds
CEO of Hirsch’s Home stores, Margaret Hirsch, along with a team from Hirsch’s Ballito recently visited Ququlwazi High School to talk to the class of 2018 Grade 12 students giving them advice ahead of their departure from school at the end of the year. Margaret spoke to the students about her story and how she and her husband Allan Hirsch started Hirsch’s not by it just falling on their laps, but by sheer hard work and determination.

Margaret: “I work with young entrepreneur’s helping them to build their businesses. I work with businesses that are struggling and help them to get back on their feet.n
I work with ladies who have made it in life and have everything that they want and now want companionship. I also work in old age homes entertaining elderly people.
My day is spent working my day job which is selling irons, toasters, kettles, fridges, stoves, washing machines, beds and furniture but my passion is working with women to empower woman and to improve the lives of children. I do what I do ensuring that businesses go from strength to strength. There is a huge middle class of entrepreneurs coming through the ranks and are going to ensure that this country remains strong”.
