Serving has always been a part of who I am. One of my personal mottos is: “If serving is below you, leadership is beyond you”. This is something I strive to in both my professional life as the Nursing Manager of Zuid-Afrikaans Hospital, as well as personal life as a proud wife, mother of two and grandmother of one.
My career started in the Military where I was trained as a nurse and managed the Oshakati theatre during the South African Border War. It is there where I learnt a great lesson- in life one must give unconditionally – when you don’t have something to give, you improvise.
I completed my B.Cur through Unisa and started with my M.Cur in Intensive Care Nursing. I could unfortunately only complete the Intensive Care part my studies to support my husband who was the Surgeon General of the Military at that stage.
I was born a nurse and have a deep founded love for our industry. As the saying goes: The best nurses have the essential qualifications before they go to school. I am committed to always look further than the surface, sometimes people will act strange because of another type of pain they are carrying.
The opportunity at Zuid Afrikaans Hospital came in 2002. At that stage ZAH was not as well known as we are today, but with a brilliant team with unprecedented integrity we grew the hospital to what it is today. I believe in the value of a TEAM- Together everyone achieves more. We have therefore invested in the training of the personnel to be wonderful nurses with high standards and integrity. No patient must ever doubt your honesty. I am also blessed that the majority of our team shares my faith and knows that we are mere tools in a greater Hand. We might argue and differ, but we are a family at ZAH.
I believe in the saying, no one in history has ever choked to death from swallowing their pride. If we allow others to steal our happiness, they steal our lives.
Lastly, I am convinced that we shouldn’t change who we are to be accepted and loved by others, if we stay true to who we are, the right people will love us.
