Jerome 'Slim" Du Plooy

Radio & TV Personality, National and international Emcee and Event Co-ordinator

Jerome Slim du Plooy, an ordinary boy from Kliptown who was given a chance to chase his dreams; who wanted to help others chase their dreams. Jerome says: I love the Blue Ribbon that says: Who I am makes a difference, I am honoured to be part of the Global movement to create change through recognition, to stop bullying and to make dreams come true. I love the idea and I cannot wait to meet the Founder, Julie B Steynberg. Thank you for this Julie. To be part of One Billion Dreams in the world, and now in Africa, to me is truly an honour and privilege. I see this as a milestone to go the extra mile by Changing Lives Making a Difference. Thank you to Bea Campbell-Cloete who Nominated me. Bea in her own words says: Jerome is a caring individual, loving to a fault and a true ambassador to Kliptown and the children he adores. For this reason I nominate Jerome Du Plooy as a Top 100 Difference Maker in South Africa.

As a young accomplished man, Jerome has an amazing story to tell. Having grown up in a less than fortunate environment, Jerome rose to beat the odds and went against every limitation to reach his dreams. Jerome is currently endorsed by Nike South Africa.

Jerome is a Radio & TV personality, national and international emcee as well as an event co-ordinator. He describe himself as a free lance entertainer who had appeared in a youth favourite ’soapie’ Rhythm City and one of South Africa's biggest television shows: Generations The Legacy. He is coached by acting legend Dorothy Gould.

Jerome was spotted by the NBA (National Basketball Association) in 2005 and his life has changed for the better since then. He is a strong believer that basketball should be used as a tool to encourage others to reach their dreams, like he did.
Jerome firmly believes: “Giving back is the key to be a blessing to others”. I started an initiative in 2011: Slim Cares. It is a feeding scheme for the underprivileged;  I love to organize Christmas parties giving back to the needy, especially with children involved. At first I started with 100 toys for 100 kids; and last year I ran a project called 100 meals for 100 families. This has grown to 600 meals for 600 families. I was able to give away four bursaries courtesy of Boston City Campus and 10 pairs of Jordan’s from Mokgele Kgagara and Nike South Africa.
